Art: “Self-Portrait (Ai Weiwei and Grass Mud Horse)” by Ai Weiwei (2011)
“A well-known, satirical self-portrait that Ai published. It shows him naked, but with a soft toy covering his groin. The toy is a “grass mud horse” – a creature invented by Chinese internet users to mock censors, because the name is a homonym for a graphic curse.” (via guardian.co.uk)
“… Photographs of himself nude with only a toy alpaca hiding his modesty – with a caption『草泥马挡中央』 (“grass mud horse covering the middle”). The term possesses of a double meaning in Chinese: one possible interpretation was given by Sheridan as: “Fuck your mother, the party central committee” (the similarly pronounced 『肏你妈党中央』).” (via Wikipedia)

Fuck Off was a notorious art exhibition, curated by Ai Weiwei and Feng Boyi, which ran alongside the Third Shanghai Biennale in the fall of 2000.
The exhibition’s title is an interpretation of its Chinese name—不合作方式—more strictly translated as “Uncooperative Approach.” But the blunter English language sentiment was deemed preferable by its participants. Fuck Off was held in an Eastlink Gallery warehouse in Shanghai.
